Happy New Year fish fans! We here at Aquatic Veterinary Services are hard at work on opening our new hospital and retail store, Santa Cruz Koi! Walls are still going up and everything is being wired. We will let you know when we plan to open as soon as we do.
Ran into this post from Vancouver Aquarium: The Rockfish with the Fake Eye. We tend to remove eyes fairly commonly in the fish vet world, and apparently, this little guy wasn’t doing so great with only one eye. So, what is a vet to do? Why, give him a prosthetic eye of course! Read the full article here. (For you koi folks out there, koi tend to be much more communal than rockfish, so if your koi has a bad eye that needs removal, he won’t be shunned like this poor fish.) Short story short: fish with new fake eye = lots more confidence and return to normal behavior.
Make sure to come visit us at the ZNA NorCal Koi Show coming up Feb 28-Mar 1 in San Jose. We will be raffling off some test kits and will have more information about our new services coming soon. Put it on your calendar now!
