Wet Vet Weekend

When: July 20-21, 2019 and August 17-18, 2019

What: A weekend just for veterinarians, veterinary technicians and veterinary students to get hands-on aquatic veterinary education and experience!

About: Interested in incorporating fish into your day to day veterinary practice? Ever wondered what it would take to add pet fish owners as regular clients? Just love fish and want to learn more? Join us for our Wet Vet Weekend!

The purpose of this event is to expose veterinary professionals and veterinary students to various aspects of aquatic veterinary medicine. Those veterinary professionals already in practice and those about to enter the veterinary profession can gain key skills and increase the availability of aquatic veterinarians to pet owners. Through this training, veterinary professionals and veterinary students can gain insight into how aquatic veterinary medicine can be added to their career path and current practice offerings.

Format: The 2-day program will consist of didactic lessons on pertinent fish anatomy and physiology, water quality and its effects on anatomy and physiology and basic aquatic veterinary procedures, including sedation and anesthesia, physical exam, including basic biopsies (skin/mucus, gill and fin), common diseases and treatments, surgical procedures and necropsy. Laboratory sessions will include water chemistry evaluation, fish physical exams and diagnostic sampling. Due to the nature of veterinary curriculum and veterinary practice, a shorter program will allow veterinary professionals and students to attend both days without taking away from their earnings or education.

Costs: Veterinarian & Veterinary Technicians – $325-$450

Veterinary Students – $200-$300

Additional Aquarium Tour – $60

Coffee, light breakfast and lunch are included.
