Join us for our Fish Diagnostic Lab in Austin, TX before the AVMA Convention! This lab will cover everything you need to know about working with fish patients in a clinical setting. We will be offering a water quality diagnostic lab in addition to a full fish handling and diagnostic lab. All participants will perform sedation, physical exam, and common diagnostic sampling including skin mucus biopsy, gill clip and phlebotomy. We will also be demonstrating a basic ultrasound exam.

Lab is open to all veterinarians, veterinary technicians and students. The lab will be Friday, June 21st from noon to 5pm and electronic materials are available online at the link below.

We will be applying for 5 hours of RACE-approved CE credits for the lab with an additional 7 hours for the online materials.

Instructor: Dr. Jessie Sanders, DVM, DABVP (Fish Practice)

All labs and lectures will be presented by Dr. Jessie Sanders, Owner and Chief Veterinarian of Aquatic Veterinary Services. Dr. Sanders is a board-certified fish practitioner with over 11 years experience in mobile aquatic private veterinary practice.

Water Quality Diagnostic Lab
All participants will receive their own API Freshwater Master Test Kit, GH/KH Test Kit, Infrared Thermometer and Standard Thermometer to take home.
1:30pm to 5pm CST
Fish Diagnostic Lab
Prior to handling, we will describe common components of a visual behavioral assessment prior to introducing and capture equipment. All participants will observe demonstration of proper capture techniques and then a few volunteers will be practicing catching their first fish patient. All attendees will practice effective sedation techniques, fish physical exam and diagnostic sample collection including skin mucus biopsy, gill biopsy and phlebotomy. All samples will be examined microscopically to understand overall general health of the fish.
